Denbies 2023 Orange Solaris Vintage!
Denbies 2023 vintages are busy fermenting and will be ready for their spectacular release later this year. Our Orange Solaris in particular is looking to produce a fantastic 2023 vintage. After releasing two award winning vintages, some of you may be familiar with Denbies’ Orange Solaris!
Orange Solaris
A white wine made in the style of a red, made from 100% Solaris grapes, the wine stays on skins for up to five months, giving it that unique, bold flavour.
Orange Solaris 2021 was awarded ‘Innovation of the Year’ by Tom Hewson in the 2022 Special English Wine Report and was loved by customers, resulting in producing our second vintage of 2022.
Although the flavour of Solaris is held primarily in the skins, giving the wine its unique flavour, the second pressings produced during the winemaking process are also utilised. At the end of 2023, Denbies released an Orange Vermouth; made from the second pressings of our 2022 Orange Solaris, which was a new direction for Denbies to go in, having never produced a fortified wine before.
The Orange Vermouth has been well received and is a very versatile drink having been the perfect addition to your warming Christmas cocktails, to creating the perfect summer spritz!
Our 2023 vintage is underway and will be released in the later half of 2024. Below is an update on the 2023 vintage from Denbies Cellar Master and creator of Orange Solaris, Andy Kershaw:
The 2023 Orange Solaris, made by Denbies, is our third edition of this hugely successful wine. Picked on a sunny morning in mid-September, and crushed straight into a tank, I left the ’23 on skins for a record 18 weeks to get it to the point where I was happy to press it.
As always, there was no agitation in the tank during that time. I only wanted the free run, and the pressings will be used for another Vermouth. It’s very early days, but I’m delighted – and excited – about this wine. Although never an aim, the ’23 has a strong citrus character that nods heavily towards freshly peeled tangerines. The wine will be worked in tank over the next few months before being bottled in spring and released later in the year.
